County Profile

Gonzales County is a rural Texas county, located approximately 65 miles east of San Antonio, 65 miles south of Austin,  125 miles west of Houston, 14 miles south of Interstate 10.

Electricity: Distributors of electricity in the area are the City of Gonzales & Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative Inc. The Lower Colorado River Authority is the wholesale electricity supplier.

Water: Water is supplied by the City of Gonzales & the Gonzales County Water Supply Corporation.

Gas: Texas Gas Service is the local natural gas supplier. Bottled & bulk retail gas is supplied by Ferrellgas & Akin Propane Co.

Telephone service: Telephone service in the area is supplied by Verizon (formerly GTE Southwest Inc.) and by Guadalupe Valley Telephone Cooperative

Gonzales County Archives & Records

The archives & records center has an amazing collection of historical information, family histories, genealogy, deeds, census and school records and more for those who are interested in historical research. Copies of the Gonzales County History Book are available there and at the Old Jail Museum for $75 each, shipping extra. The center is vitally interested in preserving history and welcomes donations of information, photographs, recordings about Gonzales County. Ask workers there for a list of items that can be donated.
