Total enrollment - approximately 2,600 students. GISD is the largest of three school districts in Gonzales County and has one of the lowest school tax rates in the region. GHS students have access to dual credit college courses and advanced placement courses. On average, GISD teachers have 13 years of teaching experience.

Nixon-Smiley CISD - 830-582-1536

The Nixon-Smiley CISD. has close to 1000 students from seven communities within 376 square miles and was consolidated in 1982 from the Nixon and Smiley school districts.  The communities are approximately eight miles apart. The administrative offices are located 800 N. Rancho Road. The high school, with ninth through 12 grades, is located in Nixon, along with an elementary campus. The junior-high campus is located in Smiley, along with an elementary campus.
